Super Andrés

Andres outside in the sunshine

CALLING ALL HEROES: Have YOU made someone’s day better today? If not, it’s never too late; Super Andrés is here to show us how it’s done. Super Parent Alyssah tells us the story:

“When I found out I was having a baby, I was nervous…until I met him. Super Andrés literally saved my life. He was diagnosed with neonatal stroke and HIE (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopath) at birth, and then, in May of 2020, he was diagnosed with autism and mild spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.  He also has some respiratory issues, and last year, he really scared us when he was struggling to breathe. Special needs or not, though, he is the greatest blessing I could ever have.

I get a lot of pity, and many people will say to me, ‘He’ll grow out of it’. While this isn’t true, I would never change a thing. Super Andrés is a superhero. He has always been very empathetic and caring. When his friends would cry, he would be right there. He loves his friends. He’s a very loving little boy. He’s still nonverbal, but he uses his signs, and he is starting to use words more. Super Andrés also loves to listen to music. He sings in his very own language!

In addition to music and his friends, Super Andrés also loves his tablet, his music, cuddles with mama, his ‘bob’ (pacifier), the smell of essential oils, and his blankie.

Watching this hero learn, grow, and, of course, jump over obstacles brings joy to my heart. He crawled at 12 months, walked at 16.5 months, and he can now eat without choking at 22 months.  He still has a very long journey ahead, but I’m excited to be on the journey with him. He starts ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) soon, as well as more therapy!”

Go, Super Andrés! Super huge thanks to this hero and to Super Mom Alyssah for sharing this amazing story with all of us.
