Super Gabriel

Look out, world! Super Gabriel is here to make a difference. In fact, he has already made one.

“I found out about Super Gabriel’s heart defects when I was pregnant with him,” says Super Mom Brooke. “Then, once he was born, things seemed to be getting worse and worse. We found out about his neurological and stomach problems, including digestive problems acid reflux.

“Then, when he was only 7 weeks old, Super Gabriel had his first open-heart surgery. The surgery itself was good, but the recovery…not so much. He went into bad JET (Junctional Ectopic Tachycardia), which is when the heart does not communicate well with the right and left sides. One day, I was standing next to him with his father, and his heart slowed down until it stopped. That was the longest and scariest minute of my life. A couple nights later, we did receive a phone call at  2 a.m. saying that his heart had stopped again and that the doctors had to give him compressions to get his heart beating again. Those were both the worst 2 moments of my life. I thought I lost my bundle of joy, my life, my everything. But he was strong enough to pull through. We were just a day away from getting a pacemaker when he suddenly came out of JET!

“So we may have almost lost our precious baby boy, but he’s still here fighting for his life with every heartbeat. As much as surgeries are very stressful and scary for us, Super Gabriel shows us he can get through anything life throws at him. He overcame all the pain, all the struggles, and he is doing so much better now. I couldn’t be more proud of him.

“And his personality! Super Gabriel has the best personality ever. He is one of the happiest babies I have ever met in my life. He is so goofy and loving. For instance, Super Gabriel is a big music lover. It doesn’t matter what is playing; he tries to dance and just smiles and smiles. He is also a very adventurous boy. He absolutely loves being outside and adventuring around the yard, seeing new things. He is also interested in cars. As Mommy and Daddy are car freaks, he is taking after us as he grows up! He loves being around cars. He listens to them and watches them go by.

“Super Gabriel is so extraordinary in my eyes in every way. No matter his health problems, he is the most perfect little human I could ever ask for. He gave me life and showed me what I really needed: true love. Even though he has had one crazy, long journey, it’s not anywhere near over yet. Super Gabriel has a very special life ahead. He might not know that yet. But he will be able to accomplish anything he puts his mind to, and I will make sure he knows that. As he gets older, more surgeries will be in play, and more struggles will come up. He won’t be able to be like just any other kid. But that’s what makes him so special and perfect in my eyes! He has an amazing support system, and we’re all ready to stand up and fight for him everyday until we take our last breaths.”
