Today, I want to introduce you to an extraordinary member of our TinySuperheroes community, Super Ryan. His journey is a vivid illustration of courage, determination, and the infectious joy of childhood.
Ryan’s challenges began early, diagnosed with a range of conditions including Lowe Syndrome, Brugada Syndrome, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Glaucoma, Epilepsy, and more, following extensive genetic testing. Despite these hurdles, Ryan’s spirit remains unbreakable.
One of the most incredible milestones in Ryan's journey was when he started walking at 5 years old. His days are filled with physical, occupational, speech, and vision therapies at the Perlman Center and preschool. His active lifestyle and perseverance make him a true inspiration to many.
However, Ryan’s journey has had its share of frightening moments. A fall in August 2021 led to a skull fracture and an emergency craniotomy. Another time, after just learning to walk, he experienced an arrhythmia that caused a fall and a broken femur. These incidents tested Ryan’s strength and the resilience of his family.
Through multiple surgeries, including the critical craniotomy, Ryan has shown remarkable resilience. His recovery and return to therapy are testaments to his incredible strength and the exceptional care he receives.
In public, Ryan often attracts attention, sometimes stares, from both children and adults. We hope for a world where people understand the kindness in simply saying “hi” rather than staring. Ryan loves interacting with people and thrives on attention.
Contrary to initial predictions by a geneticist, Ryan defied the odds. He walks, he communicates in his own way, and we are excited about the potential of a communication device to give him a bigger voice. His medical team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is a cornerstone in ensuring his continued health and happiness.
Ryan faces daily challenges, especially with communication, but his determination never wanes. His giggle is contagious, and his openness to people reflects a heart full of love and joy.
Looking to the future, the goal is to find an effective means for Ryan to communicate more freely. We are eager to hear all he has to share.
Ryan’s journey is also a family journey. His twin brother, Tyler, understands Ryan’s needs and is an incredible support. Whether it’s visits during hospital stays, bringing toys, or simply being there for him, Tyler’s love and understanding are a beautiful part of this story.
Super Ryan’s life is a narrative of triumph over challenges, a little boy whose smile lights up any room and whose determination inspires everyone he meets.
Stay strong, Super Ryan. We are all cheering for you and can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next.
