What You'll Need

What is a Social Story?

A social story is like a special story we make to help us understand and feel better about something that might be a little scary or new. When we write a social story, we talk about what will happen, how we might feel, and what we can do to feel brave. Making a social story helps us feel more ready and strong, so when the time comes, we know what to expect and can be brave!

Bravery Mission Instructions

Step 1

Think about an upcoming event, appointment, or transition that makes you feel nervous or unsure. We have some ideas that might help below!

Going to the Dentist
Going to the Doctor
Getting a shot
Seeing a new Therapist

Starting a new school
Meeting a new friend
Trying a new food
Joining a new team

Step 2

Download or print the social story template. Use photos, words, and drawings to make the story special and personal!  We have an example story below.  Feel free to make your own instead of using our template!

Flip through our social story example about going to the dentist!

Step 3

Read your social story with your family as many times as you like before the event. Doing so helps us practice and enables us to feel more brave when the time for the event comes!

Step 4

Strap on your Cape and take a photo with your social story!  Post it on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or anywhere you'd like! Make sure to tag us @TinySuperheroes and #BraveryMission

BONUS: Take a video reading your Social Story and share it in the Facebook Group! Your story might help another TinySuperhero, too!
