Recycle Mission

This Mission zooms in on our superpower of Recycling! Dive in with us as we give our old crayons a second chance to color our world, showcasing just one creative way to recycle and care for our planet!

Grown-ups: Feel free to change the Mission to make it fun for your TinySuperhero! Use the steps if they help, or try your own way. Just spending time with your TinySuperhero helps their superpowers grow!

Recycle Mission Instructions

Leaf Rubbings

Sparkle Ornament

Custom Crayons

Create Leaf Rubbings (easy)

1.  Gather your supplies:  leaves, crayons, and paper

2. Soak your crayons in a bowl of water for several minutes. This will make it MUCH easier to peel the paper off! Choose 3 or 4 crayons and peel the paper off.

3.  Place the leaves underneath the piece of paper.  Use the long side of the crayon to color on top of the leaf!

4.  Don't be scared to go crazy! you can move and color on top of the leaves in any way you'd like! Share your masterpiece in the Facebook Group with #RecycleMission!

Create Crayon Sparkle Ornaments (medium)

1.  Gather your supplies:  a grown-up, vegetable peeler, broken crayons, clear ornament (found at Dollar Tree), paper, hair dryer

2. Soak your crayons in a bowl of water for several minutes. This will make it MUCH easier to peel the paper off! Choose 3 or 4 crayons and peel the paper off.

3.  Alongside a grown-up, use the vegetable peeler to shave the crayons.

4.  Make sure you're doing this on a sheet of paper.  It gets a little messy!

5.  Roll the paper with the shavings inside into a funnel and pour all of the shavings into the ornament.

6.  With a grown-up, put the top on the ornament. Shake the shavings around inside the ornament while blowing it with a hair dryer.  It doesn't take very long, so keep moving the shavings around!

7.  You will know you are done when the shavings no longer move!  You can repeat the process to add more!  Take a photo of your beautiful oranament and share it in the Facebook Group with #RecycleMission!

Create New Crayons (hard)

1.  Gather your supplies:  a grown-up, oven, silicon mold, cookie sheet, bowl of water, broken crayons, pot holder.

2.  Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F.

3. Soak your crayons in a bowl of water for several minutes. This will make it MUCH easier to peel the paper off!

4.  Peel off all of the paper from the crayons, and throw the paper away.  Break the crayons into small pieces. This is hard, so do your best and get help from others!

5.  Put the pieces of crayons into a silicon mold. You can keep colors together or mix them altogether!  You can use any silicon mold, including silicon cupcake liners.  Fill them up as much as you can!

6.  Place the silicon mold onto a cookie tray to keep it stable.  Then, place the tray in the oven. 

7.  Bake the crayons until they are completely melted.  This will take at least 15 minutes, but depends on the size of the mold. 

8.  Remove the tray and mold when the crayons are completely melted.  (It will have melted down, so if you want, you can add more crayons on top and re-bake if you'd like.)

9.  These are very hot!  Let them cool down until they are completely solid. You can put them in the fridge to speed this up if you'd like.

10.  Pop your brand new crayons out of their mold!  

11. You just made new crayons out of old crayons!!!  Take pictures and post them to the Facebook Group using #RecycleMission

Mission Program FAQ

Who can participate in the Mission Program?

All kids are welcome to participate! If there are 3 kids in your family, all 3 can earn a Patch. You just need to complete a submission for each participant individually to ensure they receive their Patch. Only the current month's Mission is free.  After the month expires, the Patch will be available in the shop! TinySuperheroes can participate from anywhere in the world!
 

No Cape is needed to participate in the program, but if your child has not been nominated for their official Cape, you can do so here: tinysuperheroes2.myshopify.com/pages/nomination-landing-page-2

How long do I have to redeem my Mission Kit?

Each month's Mission's claim codes are valid during that month's mission and for 45 days after. (Shipping charges will apply.)

My code is not working or I need help claiming my Mission Kit!

How many Missions can I submit at one time?

You can submit up to 8 Missions in one submission.  You will receive a code that will will cover the cost of the number of participants you submitted.  You will want to add all of them to your cart before you checkout with the code.

Why do I have to pay for shipping?

TinySuperheroes charges a small amount for shipping & handling on monthly missions to help us sustain our commitment to offer free merchandise through the Mission Program.

What is the Autopilot Program?

We heard from several parents that their kids love participating in the Monthly Missions, but sometimes they miss a month or forget to submit their Mission.

 

The Autopilot is a solution to that problem.  The Mission Program remains as it always has, and during each month you have the opportunity to claim that Mission Kit for free (shipping charges will apply).

 

However, the Autopilot Program allows you to pay $7/month, and we will automatically mail the Mission Kit to you each month.  There is also an annual option.
